Bourjois – Dangerous Wish

Today I have one of the new Bourjois Gold is Back collection, there is a hint of Halloween with the naming of these.  This one is Dangerous Wish.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

This is a very dark green glitter bomb of a polish – its packed full of gold glitter in two sizes, average and small sized.  Its so dark green its look black.  The polish dries quickly and thanks to the Bourjois brush you can coat your nails in one go.  What you see above it two coats over a base coat of Glisten & Glow Stuck on Blu! and topped with Glisten & Glow HK Girl.  Its an awesome wearer too, love it.

Bourjois can be bought on the high street, in both Boots and Superdrug.  At the moment, there is a 2 for £7 online at and they have these new colours in.  Otherwise RRP is £5.99 each.

What do you think?  Halloween or not Halloween enough? Let me know in the comments!

New Things I have Spotted #62 Wilco’s Nail Gems, Rimmel Space Dust, New Color Show, Barry M Autumn Collection, NYC Glitters & Gold is Back Bourjois

I’ve been out and about this week, looking for new things to show you.  Typically its been a bit slow the last couple of days and then BOOM its new products galore.  Scroll down to see what is new.

First up, there has been a real increase in the number of stores providing nail art ‘stuff’ from gems to pens to files, seems everyone is getting into the act.  I saw these little heart shaped jars of nail gems in Wilkinsons today – RRP is £1.  My real reason for going in was to see if there was the forthcoming Essence stand – for more on that see this post on Make Up Savvy. There wasn’t 😦

20131006-173724.jpgMoving swiftly on, I popped into Superdrug to pick up a few bits and saw this little lovelies.  Rimmel Space Dust.  This is their take on the textured trend, there seem to be five in the collection.  I picked up 004 Total Eclipse, the blackened green you can see on the right.  Good price point too at £3.99.

Moving along the cosmetic bays, hoping for those new Color Show Brocade polishes, I notice this new insert into the Maybelline Color Show stand.  Not sure if these are new shades, but Ice Queen, Plum Paradise, Green with Envy and Tutti Frutti look new to me.  Check out Tutti Fruitti in the next picture!20131006-173752.jpg

Super sparkly, this Tutti Fruitti, looks quite sheer in the bottle ( the runner on the stand does say transparent gel-based formula if I recall correctly that is the whole range…), but I didn’t pick it up, so keep your eye out for swatches.

Finally, our local Superdrug has the new Barry M mattes and textures.  This does make me happy *sigh* new nail paints in Mushroom and a couple of other colours too, RRP £2.99 and the new Matte and Textures RRP at £3.99.

NYC New York Color has updated its glitter range too.  I hadn’t noticed these before, but Disco Inferno has been repacked along side the black and silver Rock Muse polish.  20131006-173837.jpg

I also saw some of the new Bourjois One Seconde shades in the stand but was unable to get a picture as it was surrounded.  There are several new shades coming, the collection is called Gold is Back and is numbered 29 to 33.  Not yet on the UK site, but images are on the French site.  I picked up Dangerous Wish (number 31), swatches to come and that set me back £5.99, but it is stunning!

That’s all for this for now, do let me know if you see something new, feel free to tweet me a pic @BakingNails or drop me a comment.  I’d love to hear what you have been picking up.

Colors by Llarowe – Burnt Sugar

I have another Colors by Llarowe to share with you today.  This is my second one.  I’m a little bit in love with this one… something so suitably autumnal!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Burnt Sugar is part of the Core Collection and is just the most wonderful shade of brown and sparkly holo.  I love it.  Its brown, its holo and its glittery.  Burnt sugar is a great name for it too. Formula is totally wonderful, its not too thick not too thin.  Covers that nail in pretty  much one coat.  What you see about is two coats over a coat of Glisten & Glow Stuck on Blu!  Again I also coated with Glisten & Glow HK Girl, just because I do think it helps to preserve the polish on the nail.

Colors by Llarowe are available directly from the Llarowe website, they cost between $6 and $12 depending on finish, and there is international shipping!!  They are looking into suppliers in other countries to ensure deliveries and keep postage costs down, so do keep an eye on their website and/or Facebook page.  There are occasional pre-sales, so you order in advance and they get sent to you when you order is fulfilled, or if they are in stock, you can buy them right away.  Glisten & Glow Stuck on Blu! Base Coat and HK Girl Top Coat are now available to those of us in the UK via Rainbow Connection UK.

What do you think?  Are you all holo’d out yet??  What else do you think I should be checking out from the Llarowe range?

OPI – Muir Muir On the Wall

Hi there, hope you are having a great week!  Today I have my second of the OPI San Francisco collection that I bought.  This one has special meaning to me, which is ridiculous because it is a polish after all.  The Hubster and I visited Muir Woods as part of our honeymoon trip around the US.  It was a damp, rainy day but we had the most amazing visit.  What sticks with me now even 10 years later, is the smell of the woods,  it was amazing – all those big trees

Anyway, I digress, here somes the polish – Muir Muir on the Wall

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

This is a really dark rich plum with a shimmer.  Its lovely.  I really love these kinds of colours, they make my heart sing.  Formula was good, easy to work with and dries to a nice shiny finish.  I base coated with Essence Studio Nails Better than Gel Nails and topped with the shiny gel top top form the same range.  Wear was excellent and the colour is really spectacular in the sunshine.

As I mentioned in the previous post, I bought my recent OPI purchases from Nail Polish Direct.  Well worth checking out if any of these catch your eye.

Sinful Colors – Leather Loose

Oh I have a treat for you today.  This polish found it’s way to me from my lovely sister who has been in the US.  I first saw these Sinful Color Leather Luxe Collection on Nouveau Cheap and fell in love with with one, Leather Loose.  I know, ridiculous name, but beautiful polish!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

As with most leather or matte effect polishes, you wear it without a top coat.  If you want to gloss it up, you can pop on your top coat.  What you see above is two coats over a base of Glisten & Glow Stuck on Blu! (which you can now buy via Rainbow Connection UK).  Formula is great, its smooth and the brush (when you don’t get a wonky one) is just lovely to use.  It dries quickly and dries to this velvet matte effect.  It actually feels soft under your fingers.  Its a dark brown with copper shimmer particles in it.  Perfect for the autumn season. Awesome!

I’m going to try this with a topcoat next time.  Should look stunning as this polish is super sparkly before it dries out.  Sinful Colors are a US brand, easily available in many US locations.  For those of us in the UK, you either venture onto eBay or call into your local large Boots store.  I’ve only seen one Sinful Colors collection in Boots, so I have no idea if these will ever come out in the UK.  The UK site is here.

OPI – Peace & Love & OPI

OPI has released a collection based on the city of San Francisco for Fall 2013.  Its a huge collection, with 12 polishes and 3 liquid sands.  I have a couple of show you, so this is the first one – Love & Peace & OPI.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

This is a duochrome polish that flashes pink, purple and silver.  Not an unusual combination or colour, as I have seen similar ones in the past, but what makes this stand out is the colour combined with the formula.  Its lovely.  OPI bottles are quite big, 15ml of product, in a heavy glass bottle with black cap.  The brush to good, firm but not stiff and easy to use with the formula.  I based with Essence Studio Nails Better Than Gel Nails and used their Gel Shine top coat – lovely.  Gave it good shine and durability.

If you follow lots of nail blogs, you may have already seen that this one is meant to be a dupe for the new Essie For the Twill of it.  I don’t have the Essie, but it was on my wish list.  I got this little gem from Nail Polish Direct – they have a great price point and excellent fast shipping.  It was my first time purchasing from them and I’ve been delighted with the service.

Did you pick up anything from the SF Collection?  Let me know in the comments.

Chanel – Elixir

Image from

I have one of my airport purchases to share with you all today.  This is Elixir from the Chanel Superstition Fall 2013 collection.  This was released in the UK mid August but has been available in the US and other places since late June.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I just love this.  No one does creme polishes like Chanel.  Its amazing.  It is practically a one coater, but in the images above I did two coats for even coverage.  It covered like a dream, the formula is excellent, drying well and providing a great amount of self leveling.  I based with Stuck on Blu and topped with Hong Kong Girl.

The colour is a dusky raspberry, not incredibly unusual, but stunning.  The second and last images in the slideshow show it off best in natural light and provide the most colour accurate look – although do remember that your monitor is calibrated differently to mine.

There are lots of great comparison posts out there, so google can help with that.  If I have time I will pull out my other Chanels and possible dupes and pop up a post for you.

Chanel Le Vernis can be picked up from Chanel counters in large department stores and certain larger chemist stores.  RRP is £18.  In the US they can be bought directly on

New Things I Have Spotted #58 – Revlon by Marchesa and Seventeen

Finally saw the Revlon Nail Appliques by Marchesa.  Aren’t they cute??  Even more excitingly, according to Vogue, this is the beginning of a longer relationship and more products!  This 3D nail range is the first of three lines.  We have six designs in this first roll out as opposed to eight in the US line.

20130827-192650.jpgI bought the last set, the black, gold and red ones.  Can’t wait to try these out.

Then, when I turned around in Boots, I noticed new Seventeen polishes.  Lots of new colours, probably as part of the new brand identity.

So, anything catch your eye?

New Things I Have Spotted #57 – Seventeen and KIKO

Just a quick couple of spots for you Post Bank Holiday. First up, new Seventeen Rock Hard Couture.  These babies come in white, pink, gold and blue – £3.99 each.  Might be a cheaper substitute for the OPI Bond Girls Liquid Sands perhaps?

Then I was lucky enough to have 30 mins for so in the KIKO store in Westfield Stratford.  Make up Bliss let me tell you.  So what did I see in store… the new Dark Heroine Range… all gorgeous.  6 new nail polishes at £4.90 each, called Laser Nail Lacquer.  I got one of those just to see what they are like obviously *cough*

I picked up on of the lovely grey/silver eye liners too, can never have too many!20130823-144600.jpg

Another new-ish collection, called Glossy Temptations.  This one has double ended nail polishes for three colour options.  These are £5.90.

And the Quick Dry Nail Lacquers too, all with £1 off, making them £3.90.  I was also able to grab some of the last remaining Sugar Mat polishes, one red and one green.

The one thing I do love about KIKO, is that if their range changes, they reduce the prices on the older ranges straight away (and online too!).  Its great if you happen into a store and get the polish you have been after for ages for half price.  I love their collections I just wish the shop assistants would calm down a bit, I was the only person in the store and got asked four times if I wanted help or if I wanted to try the new eyeliners.

Anyway, what do you think, anything catch your eye?  Have you been into KIKO or ordered online?

New Things I Have Spotted #55 – Revlon, Mavala, Color Show Vintage Leather & Dior Fall 2013

Hi there, have I go some Spotteds for your today!

First up, I was in Superdrug and spotted this small addition to the Revlon stand.  LOOK CHROMA CHAMELEON!!!

After that excitment, I walked up to my local Boots.  They had a new Mavala stand.

Then – new in the Maybelline stand in Boots, Color Show Vintage Leather.  Limited Edition of four polishes, not the ten available in the US.  The 3 for 2 offer makes three polishes for just shy of £6, bargain!

I picked up three, of course I did, but left the Tan one behind.  Cute name however, Tanned and Ready.

Then, yet more new things on the larger Revlon stand in Boots.  Firstly, new nail appliques by Marchesa!  Sadly all gone, but I will be looking out for these.

And in the same stand, a full range of six Chroma Chameleons.

Finally, the new Dior Fall 2013 is now out, Mystic Metallics.  Three polishes in this edition, two regular and one magnetic.

So, what do you think, seen anything you like?  Let me know if you spot anything new!
