Still working through the US Haul, congrats for making it this far with me. This is one polish I squealed out loud when I grabbed it off the shelf into the hot waiting hands….. this is one of the Maybelline Color Show Polka Dots collection, but its one we didn’t get in the UK – this is the orange one, called Dotty.
Gosh I just love this, I love the jelly look and I love the build up of the glitter and I love the fact its not opaque (even though I usually had VNL). What you see above is two coats, over a G&G Stuck on Blu! base coat and topped with a layer of G&G HK Girl.
Dotty is an orange jelly with black and white glitter suspended within it. The glitter is of varying sizes. Formula is a bit gloopy but its to be expected with that much glitter in it. A bit of splodging was required on the first coat but once that is one, the second goes on like a dream.
Ah so nice, in the UK we got four shades of the Polka Dots, sadly all now limited edition and I’ve not seen a bottle in months on the shleves. But in the US all five of their range seem to be part of the permanent line – meaning you could probably pick the US versions via eBay.
What is your favourite polka polish? Let me know in the comments.
As promised, here are my purchases from my recent trip to the US. We had a wonderful time, lots of things to see and do and I got to visit my first Harmon’s – very exciting! First up, some pics of the ranges I was hoping to see. First up, Revlon Parfumerie. I just love these. Then, more Revlon. With the new Matte effects and Sun Candy ranges. Followed by new Wet N Wild megarocks! And now my purchases…..I’m going to add links to other blogs, in particular Nouveau Cheap, so that you can see the full range. These are all US polishes and for Europe/UK ladies, you either need a trip to the US, a swap buddy or a look on eBay to get your hands on these.
These are the Color Shows I picked up, from the top Beaming Blue, Crushed Crimson and Amethyst Couture from the larger US Brocades range, beneath them Styled Out from the Denim Range and Dotty from the US Polka Dots range. Here we have my first new Covergirl polish in 315 Timless Rubies, Sally Hansen Sugar Shimmer in Cinny Sweet (see the Fall 2013 range here), Wet N Wild megarocks in Slap the Bass and Milani Neon in Awesome Orange. No judging… I’m still not done… L’Oreal in Hidden Gems and I Like it Chunky from the Gold Dust collection. More Sally Hansen goodies now, from the top right Fa-La-La-Lavender (Holiday 2013), Satin Glam in Silk Onyx and Sun Sheen (rest of the range here), Insta-Dry in Chop Chop Copper (Fall 2013). Beneath them Twinkle Toes-ty (Holiday 2013) and Xtreme Wear in Rosey Shooter, Sea-ly String, Frazzle Dazzle and Green Rocket from the Fall 2013 range (see more info here) I’m very excited to try out these two from the new Sephora X collection. This is Spark and Bombshell. And then, finally…. more Revlon. Parfumerie in Autumn Spice and Winter Mint, Revlon Elusive, Revlon Sun Candy in Lava Flame and some spider nail art stencils that I think are Halloween 2012 or 2013 (sale item). So there you have it. My addiction laid bare. Anything catch your eye and what you would like to see first?? Hit me up in the comments!
I’m not one for nail art, I’m not particularly artistic and I’m worried about doing something that looks awful. But the one thing it appears I can do is DOTS!! Yay, dots are cool. Seriously cool. I had a dotting tool kit that I picked up off eBay for pennies, literally, you can buy something similar here. But you can also use several other things, like hair pins or toothpicks.
Anyway, this is my first “nail art” share, I used one coat of Cult Nails Tempest – this is my favourite go to white polish. Seriously awesome and flawless in one coat. And then used a couple of my dotting tools with my Wet N Wild Black Creme. I then topped with Glisten and Glow HK Girl Top Coat.
What do you think? Are dots your thing?
Another Maybelline Color Show Polka Dots to show you today. This one is Chalk Dust, a clear base polish, with black and white glitters of varying sizes. In the latter respect its very similar to the others in the range.
I layered this over Julep Salma, a hot summer red, and I think the colour contrast works really well. What you see above is one coat over my top coat. Getting the glitter out of the bottle was not a problem at all, this genuinely is one coat of the brush. The brush is quite thick, so you can probably get away with two swipes of the brush.
As with Rain Forest Cafe, you get 7ml of product for your £2.99, but its worth waiting until there are offers instore, such as the Boots and Superdrug Buy One Get One Half Off deals.
Did you pick up any Polka Dots? Or is it a glitter polish too far?
In my last edition of Spotted! I shared with you all the new Maybelline Color Show Polka Dot Polishes. This is the first one I have had time to swatch and share with you. This is the green one of the bunch, known as Rain Forest Canopy.
As you can see, its a jelly-ish teal green with black and white glitters in of different sizes. I wasn’t sure how opaque it was going to be as a true jelly is not my favourite type of finish. However, three average coats later and opacity was not an issue. First coat had a tendency to drag the glitter towards the free edge of my nail but careful applications on coats two and three rectifies that nicely. I used two of the Essence Better Than Gel Nails products; the base sealer and the top coat. Still quite fond of these, not sure how much is left as the bottles are not clear.
Drying time for this was actually very quick, by the time I had finished on my last nail, the first one I painted was pretty much touch dry. I was able to romp through this mani quickly, base, three coats and a top coat. Brush for the Maybelline Color Show polishes tends to be on the thin side, so you usually need multiple sweeps to paint a nail. Each bottle contains 7ml of product and retails around the £3 mark.
Ah, new polish. What is better than new polish? I saw these today in my local Superdrug. I saw four in total, this pink one, the two below and a dark blue one.
I cracked and bought two. 200 Rainforest Canopy on the left and 197 Chalk Dust on the right. There is a deal on at the moment for buy one get one half price. RRP is £2.99 so that is a great deal.
Plus, according to British Beauty Blogger, they aren’t meant to be out until June. So consider this a sneak peak! Swatches coming soon.
Have you seen this in your local stores yet?
