Zoya Pixie Dust – Nyx

You may have noticed a new nail trend in town.  Its called Textured Polish and can be found by a number of brands.  Barry M has his texture paints, Nails Inc have their concrete and leather effects, OPI have their Mariah Carey Liquid Sands and the US based brand Zoya have Pixie Dusts.

I wasn’t sure about the texture thing, I thought it was a bit gimmicky, however, I am bowled over by these Zoyas.  They are awesome sauce.

The one above is Nyx, described by Zoya as a ‘perfect periwinkle with a sugared sparkle’, is a lovely pale blue/periwinkle.  What you see above is three coats, layered over each other without a top coat.  I used Seche Clear as a base coat.  Now, the only caveat is that they take a little bit longer to dry than usual.  They do dry matte and as they dry the sparkle comes out.  The colour builds up really well over those three coats.  The Zoya brush is of a good size, easy to use.  The cap of these bottles is slightly different to regular bottles as its slightly matte.

The Zoya page says not to use top or base coat but I used base coat regardless.  If you have time, it might be an idea to let each layer dry before applying another.  And then remember that you haven’t put a fast drying top coat on and messing about might cause it to punch up and need redoing.  The texture isn’t too rough, it is even which is a bonus, its akin to slightly rough sandpaper.  Its quick relaxing running your fingers over it!

Zoya is available through resellers such as Amazon and eBay, Zoya does not ship outside the US or Canada.  US retail point is around $9, outside the US prices will vary.

What other polish trends are you itching to try?

  1. I now see that I need this. The texture didn’t appeal to me in theory, but your pictures have changed my mind 🙂

    • Thanks for your comment. I’ve for a couple more of the Pixie Dusts coming up this week, so stay tuned.

I’m really quite impressed with them, the texture really sets them apart from other similar polishes.

  3. I want some of these so badly! Loving this color by the way! Funny thing though, Zoya’s tag line for the collection “Six new colors infused with magic and wonder” reminds me of the theme song for an old children’s show I watched when I was a kid though. Not sure if you had it in the UK, it’s called Zoobilee Zoo. Anyhow the song mentions that “magic and wonder are waiting for you.” Coincidence?
